Cultural Identity & Diversity

At Rototuna Junior High School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates cultural identity and diversity.
We are proud to welcome students from all around the world, each bringing their unique cultures to enrich our school community. This diversity enhances our learning environment, creating a vibrant space for personal growth and shared experiences.

We appreciated the opportunity last year to welcome our families from diverse cultural backgrounds into the school to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and Diwali with us while learning more about these special occasions. We look forward to continuing these traditions in the years to come.

Everyone, including both students and staff, was encouraged to take part in the Pacific Language Week celebrations—an excellent opportunity to embrace the diversity of New Zealand communities. Students were invited to wear cultural attire that reflected the language being celebrated that week.

Students who connect with te ao Māori embrace every opportunity to celebrate Māori culture. Our kapa haka group, Te Tuna Whakapeke, has had the honor of representing the school at various community events and performances. In Term 1 last year, we forged a partnership with Te Wharekura Kirikiriroa to perform at Koroneihana and also took part in adult rehearsals for their Tainui Regional Kapa Haka competition.
