Principal's Message

Kia ora koutou

A warm welcome to Rototuna Senior High School. We know that every family wants the best for their rangatahi (young person). We share this goal. That is why we walk alongside your young person to grow the confidence, knowledge and capabilities they need to flourish personally and academically in a connected, fast-moving world.

A teacher assists a student in shaping a model project in a design and tech space, both focused and collaborative.

At Rototuna Senior High School, our vision is to empower our people to be connected, collaborative, community-minded learners inspired to soar.

To empower our students, as young adults, we believe it is important to teach them how to think, not what to think. We focus on your rangatahi developing a deep understanding across our curriculum by providing learning that challenges and stretches their ways of knowing. Being able to think critically, creatively and in caring ways is crucial for people to make smart decisions that positively shape their futures.

To inspire our students our curriculum is intentionally connected to the real world and to each other. When learning is relevant to people’s lives it helps us make connections to find new solutions for enduring problems. In our Puna Wānanga programme our students are involved in high stakes collaboration, working with community partners, to open up creative solutions that make a positive impact. Collaboration requires our students to be excellent orators, articulating and pitching their ideas effectively, listening mindfully, and negotiating positive outcomes with compassion.

To soar, our innovative, research informed curriculum and range of co-curricular activities provides our students with different ways to build character and belong to our school.

From working with community experts through subjects, projects, sports, performances and leading school initiatives through school councils our young people have multiple ways to explore how they shine in the world. As our young people take up these opportunities they build character and resilience growing their unique gifts and talents, celebrating these with our school community. It is this range of opportunities that are crucial for wellbeing, relationships and leadership in all aspects of our young peoples’ lives.

At Rototuna Senior High School, we’re not just educating students; we’re empowering the changemakers, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow. It is a privilege for us to work with your rangatahi (young person) to realise their unique gifts and talents and ways of walking in the world. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our school.

Our rangatahi wings already exist.
We can’t wait to see what they can do as we learn together.
We can’t wait to see them take flight.
