Whether you’re an aspiring athlete, someone looking for a healthier lifestyle through physical activity, or someone who just wants to play some games with your friends, sports offer endless opportunities for growth, excitement and camaraderie.
Sport teaches us to work hard, to be resilient, to be accepting, and allows us to be a part of an extensive community, whilst we develop all important functional and interpersonal skills that sometimes you can not get in other aspects of lives!
We have over 1200 students across 25+ sporting codes who all have different reasons for playing sport, however, one thing we do know is.... they all have fun! Our vision at RJHS is to increase levels of positive, meaningful involvement within sport and physical activity contexts for students and we do this through our schools motto: Connect, Inspire, Soar!
Connection
Students who are involved in sporting programmes have the opportunity to foster new relationships. These relationships are not limited to specific codes as we look to connect students through cross code experiences and exchanges and events such as AIMS. Further to this, we look to build connections and support our students whanau and wider community who enable them to have these opportunities throughout their schooling years!
Inspire
Students are expected to be positive role models through their sporting contexts and inspire peers to participate so they can enjoy all the benefits sport has to offer! It is essential students look to inspire not only on the fields, but also uphold our schools values through classroom settings.
Soar
Every student is provided the opportunity to SOAR, within their own right, through their chosen sport/s. We aim to cater for elite performance through to those participating for enjoyment only. We recognise the need to acknowledge the different reasons students are involved and that regardless of what this reason is, every student involved in sport is achieving something! We look to recognise these achievements through a rewards scheme and your first year involved in sport at RJHS automatically qualifies you for a bronze award, simply for just being Involved!
