At Rototuna Junior High School (RJHS) we have students from all over the world and for many of them English is their second, third or even fourth language.
Some of the students need some help to get their English up to the level of their native English speaking peers so that they can take advantage of all RJHS has to offer.
This is where ELL will help these students.

In this class we offer the opportunity to students to practise their English by:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
For new English learners we run a small group structured literacy programme.
For students that have some English we offer small reading/comprehension groups and writing challenges to extend them.
There are three ELL classes which comprise students from Year 7-10. The Year 7/8 students are in ELL four times a week. The Year 9/10 students attend ELL three times a week. Each class is 90 minutes long.

The classes normally have under 30 students and are taught by two experienced teachers. Catherine Glyde has been teaching for over 20 years and Ann Marie Copponi for over 30 years.
The aim of the ELL class is to help the students improve their English skills so that they can join their friends in the modules.
For most this is all the motivation that they need.
