Some of the changes are:
Students are expected to be at school for at least 90% of the time.
Previous ‘explained’ absences have now been restricted with schools needing to adjust how we code students.
Students will be automatically coded against a traffic light for attendance: Green for Good, Orange for Worrying, Red for High Concern.
To manage this process, there is a new STAR attendance response system that all schools are now required to use.
Changes will include:
An automatic notification to parents/caregivers when a student's attendance is dropping below the expected threshold. Kaiarahi and kaihautu will follow up with you once this notification has gone out to develop an attendance support plan.
A regular attendance report will be sent home.
Please note that this is new to the school and there may be some teething issues as we refine our processes over the next couple of weeks. If you have any concerns about your students' attendance, your first point of contact is the Kaiarahi(advisor).
