Year 13 student Ellen Li was successful in passing the New Zealand International Biology Olympiad (NZIBO) examinations in 2024 and was invited to the exclusive NZIBO camp in the April school holidays.
Along with like-minded and inspiring science students, she participated in laboratory activities at Auckland University including microbiology and dissections as well as field days out in the natural environment to study birds and marine life.
Students at the camp competed to be a part of the national team in theory and practical exams. While the examinations at the camp were intense, Ellen encourages other students to sign up. "Don't get too stressed out about it. Enjoying it is more important."
