Specialist Outdoor Education
The Specialist Outdoor Education classes had a busy time recently. Firstly, they completed a First Aid course that saw them learn the essential skills to keep themselves and others safe in the outdoors - from CPR to burns and breaks, they covered it all!!
Later that week we travelled to Cougar Mountain Bike Park in Tokoroa to put their MTB skills to the test. The ākonga explored trails and completed a time run for their assessment.
Our next adventure was a three day hiking trip into the Coromandel Ranges that tested their organisational skills in terms of packing correct equipment, meal planning and navigation skills. We stayed at the Pinnacles Hut located in the upper Kauaeranga Valley and climbed to the summit to see the sunrise before hiking to the Billy Goat campsite.
Amazing scenery, abundant wildlife and some epic card games made for a memorable trip for all involved. If this sounds like you for 2026, choose Outdoor Education, you will not regret it!!
Mastery English
A Night of Horror on Stage
Mastery English (KBL) had the opportunity on Tuesday 2 September to attend multi-award winning screenwriter and playwright Jess Sayer (in collaboration with Oliver Driver) production Mary: The Birth of Frankenstein. A theatrical reimagining of the night Mary Shelley conceived one of the greatest novels which shaped literary history, Sayer’s production ripped into the social dynamics of making art in a patriarchal society, eyeing the hypocrisy of male “liberators”, and exploring the nuances of sexuality in the 1800s.
Furthermore, the play explored the concept of what it means to be a monster and the monster within us all. The trip aligned with the studying of the horror genre students have been involved with throughout the year; and was a chance to see how horror can be created when live.
Overall the trip was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended. Thank you to Grace Whaanga, Marie Theunsiz and Fiadh McGall for their support
Mastery of Business Studies
Sunday Night Markets
Mastery of Business Studies tauira got to attend the Sunday Night Markets as stall holders at Chartwell this term. We represented Rototuna Senior High with pride and had a wide variety of products on offer from cupcakes and tea to crochet, pottery, and upcycled clothing. Our rangatahi enjoyed the atmosphere, got to experience working with real-life customers in public and now get to report on their successes as we wrap up the assessment for the term.
