Football Boys' 1st XI - Tournament Week 2024

Date: 17 Sep 2024

Our squad, were confident of progressing to the latter rounds after winning the tournament last year. We started the tournament off well with two wins in our group and followed that up with another win to top the pool and move on to our round of 16 on day two.

Our round of 16 clash we also came away with a convincing victory. On Wednesday (day 3), we were 1-0 up in our quarter final, but unfortunately conceded two goals which ended our chances of winning the tournament back-to-back.

Our next target was to finish 5th, but like the previous game, we missed a few chances and conceded to narrowly lose this game.

Our last game was for 7th and 8th where we played some great football, but after conceding late in the game, we then ultimately lost on penalties.

The boys can hold their heads high as they played some great football all week, we scored some great goals, and many players stepped up to the mark. Nathan Gill was our MVP for the tournament for his goals, assists, work rate and consistency on the field.

Off the field, we were lucky to stay at a house in the countryside and enjoyed numerous team bonding activities such as swimming at the pools, wii sports, bowling, quiz night.

A massive thanks to our management team, Rob Orchard, Gareth King and Elton Carter who all played a massive role in helping out and making sure the boys had a fantastic experience.

Thank you to the boys again for your efforts all week, and although we were disappointed not to go further in the tournament, we all still have some great memories from the week.

We go again next year with one eye on qualifying for the Premier tournament!

Mark Jones (Senior Boys 1st XI Head Coach)
