The event has now run at our school for the last 5 years in collaboration with the Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust and the partnership between the trust and the school is only going from strength to strength. This year, the trust gifted a trophy to the school honouring the 5 years of working together which, this year, will become part of the Senior High prize giving ceremony.
This year saw the most competitors ever hosted with upwards of 360 kaumātua competing in a variety of skill, strategy and physical based activities to see Ngaruahine - Pohutukawa, a team who had travelled from Taranaki, come out victorious. Other activities on offer during the day saw the kaumātua invited to ease off their tired muscles during a taurite tu stretching session, learn more about opportunities available to them at the Hauora stands and wash it all down with the highlight of the day for many - a delicious high tea.
The entirety of the event was run by a combination of our Level 2 Physical Education, Level 2 & 3 Hospitality students as well as involvement from ākonga in several Puna Wananga projects so a huge shoutout and well done goes to every single one of our amazing ākonga involved in the fantastic event!
