Stepping into the Whirinaki Forest is like travelling back in time. Giant trees, ancient and moss-laden, tower overhead, soaring up to 65 m (215 ft) into the sky. The park is a 56,000 -ha old-growth forest, described by acclaimed British botanist, David Bellamy, as one of the great forests of the world.
Our students planned, prepared and travelled through this forest, at times, off track using the natural landscape and compasses to navigate, with little teacher guidance. This challenged the group to function together with a purpose whilst pushing them both physically and mentally. All of the students really enjoyed the trip and will have lasting memories of this journey. Thank you to Neville for his assistance on the trip.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please consider Outdoor Education as a subject in the future.
