Gateway Placements
Our Pathways Department has been out and about visiting some of our incredible students during their Gateway placements this week!
A massive shout-out to the teams at McDonalds and New World Rototuna for hosting our learners. Seeing our students step out of the classroom and into the fast-paced world of retail and hospitality is inspiring. They aren't just "working" - they are building the communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that will set them apart in the future.
Work experience is a vital bridge between school and the "real world," and we couldn’t be prouder of the work ethic our students are showing.
Keep up the amazing work!
University Presentations
It has been a busy and productive start to the year for our careers department! We have recently hosted representatives from six of Aotearoa’s leading institutions: Auckland, AUT, Canterbury, Otago, Waikato, and Wintec. These sessions provided our senior students with invaluable insights into campus life and the diverse opportunities waiting for them after graduation.
Reflecting on our Recent Guests
University of Auckland: Highlighted its global reputation and the vast breadth of research-led programmes available in the heart of the city.
AUT: Focused on 'Knowledge that Works,' showcasing modern facilities and a curriculum deeply connected to the changing technology sector.
University of Canterbury: Showcased their innovative learning environment and the unique balance of academic excellence with access to the South Island’s natural landscapes.
University of Otago: Shared insights into their world-renowned residential college culture and the independence gained by moving to Dunedin.
University of Waikato: Emphasized their "Students First" approach, focusing on smaller class sizes and practical work placements.
Wintec | Te Pūkenga: Provided a look at hands-on, applied learning, with close ties to local industry in trades, nursing, media arts, and IT.
Upcoming Visits
We are excited to welcome three more specialised institutions to the school. These sessions are a great chance for students to explore niche fields and different city vibes:
Massey University | Thursday, 12th March - Beyond their reputation for Veterinary Science, Aviation, and Agriculture, Massey is a powerhouse for Arts and Design. Their Wellington-based College of Creative Arts is world-renowned for fashion, industrial design, and fine arts.
Lincoln University | Friday, 24th April - New Zealand’s specialist land-based university, focusing on Agriculture, Horticulture, and Property/Environmental Management.
Victoria University of Wellington | Thursday, 30th April Located in the capital, focusing on Law, Politics, and Architecture, offering students a front-row seat to government and creativity.
Wintec Trades Academy
It has been fantastic to see our Wintec Trades Academy students thriving in their practical courses. Whether they are mastering the perfect brew in Café Skills, getting under the hood in Automotive, or framing up projects in Construction, our students are proving that "learning by doing" is a recipe for success.
By balancing school with weekly sessions at Wintec, these students are gaining industry-standard skills and professional confidence. We are incredibly proud of the maturity and hard work they are showing as they build the foundations for their future careers.
