ASWEFA Forklift Course
Our school is celebrating a fantastic achievement as 10 of our students successfully completed the forklift license training with ASWEFA (Access Skills & Workforce Education for All). We're incredibly proud to announce that all 10 students passed the course and are now qualified to operate a forklift.
A special shout-out goes to two of our students, Kian McRory and Josh Elliot, who were recognised for their faultless book work. They were each awarded a Bluetooth speaker, this was super special as ASWEFA typically gives out only one. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students put into the course.
Gaining this qualification opens up new pathways for these students, giving them a valuable skill that is in high demand across many industries. This is a great example of our commitment to providing practical, hands-on learning experiences that prepare our students for the future.
Industry Insider
We had an incredible 'Industry Insider' session with Duncan Palmer, a Software Developer from Tuatahi Fibre! It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with a professional working right here in the Waikato tech industry.
Duncan shared his journey and provided valuable insights into what it's like to build and maintain the technology that powers our digital lives. He talked about his day-to-day work, the importance of problem-solving skills, and the different pathways into a career in software development. He also shared how his love for gaming and technology from a young age turned into a rewarding career, demonstrating that following your passions can lead to a fulfilling future.
A huge thank you to Duncan and Tuatahi Fibre for sharing their time and inspiring the next generation of innovators!
Our next Industry Insider will be with Nick Bird from Foster Construction. He will be sharing insights about a career in the commercial construction industry. This will be on the 5th of September at 9:00am in Te Po Tamaku. We recommend all students come along!
Exploring a Career with the Police
This week, we had the privilege of a visit from Constable Erana, who spoke to our students about a career with the New Zealand Police. Constable Erana gave a fantastic insight into what it's like to be a police officer, highlighting the diverse range of roles available within the force—from frontline community policing to specialist units like the dog section and forensic teams.
She provided a clear breakdown of the recruitment process, answering student questions about the requirements, training, and the different pathways to joining the police. It was an engaging and informative session that provided our students with valuable information about a rewarding career that serves our community. We're very grateful to Constable Erana for her time and for sharing her experiences with us.
