We recently had the incredible opportunity for our students to interview Cian Parker (Ngāpuhi), an award-winning performer, writer, and theatre maker. The interactive interview format allowed our students to engage directly with Parker, asking questions about her career journey and creative process.
Parker's extensive list of accomplishments includes the Creative New Zealand Ngā Manu Pīrere award, ‘Most Promising Emerging Artist’ at the New Zealand Fringe Awards, The Arts Foundation’s 2021 Springboard Award, and the ‘New Playwright Award’ at the 2021 Wellington Theatre awards. She is currently touring her original works, Sorry For Your Loss, All I See, and Equal Voices Arts’ Where Our Shadows Meet, both nationally and internationally.
During the interview, Parker spoke candidly about the challenges and triumphs she's faced. She shared her experiences exploring different opportunities, including her previous career as a teacher, and her current life managing The Meteor Theatre and touring internationally with her work. The students were particularly fascinated by her experiences of taking her shows to a global audience, which provided them with a broader perspective on the possibilities within the creative industry.
