Puna Wānanga has been exciting and busy as our students have been researching wicked problems, analysing social issues, interviewing stakeholders, visiting places like Waikato Innovation Park, and connecting with local organisations like YWCA and Women’s Refuge.
We have also had a large number of pitches made to TUNA TANK for funding of exciting projects - everything from creating an inter-generational recipe book, to building a Go-Cart to teaching safe driving skills. We also had our Puna T-shirt pitches and after much deliberation, chose a winner! Our winning Puna T-shirt design (pictured above) was by Ashton Walworth, Alex Roper, Dillon Wenham, and Flynn Allison.
During a presentation to staff, Ashton explained that “Puna is all about growth and this is symbolised by the koru pattern on the T-shirt. Every year, since starting the car show, I have tried to do more for the community and make a bigger impact.”
Congratulations to all kaiako and aakonga who made this possible. The designers will now get to work with professionals to produce a Puna product worth celebrating every Wednesday.

Lastly, please support Mia Jacobs with her Grace Millane Handbag Appeal, which runs at school until March 20th. This is a special collaboration with Women’s Refuge, hence the extended date. You can drop handbags off at reception, or students can bring bags to the Pouwhakarae Office.
