Last Wednesday was a vibrant celebration of student voice, innovation, and collaboration as students came together to share their journey through the Design Thinking Process so far this year.
The day began with students presenting their learning within their own Puna classes. These presentations highlighted the depth of inquiry, creativity, and commitment students have invested in their projects throughout the semester.
Projects included the development of a youth gig performance space, a website that will allow students to sell their RSHS art work as well as a place to achieve these for the future, and refurbishment of the school vege gardens supported by a grant from Enviro Schools Waikato. From these sessions, standout presenters were selected to share keynote presentations with the wider Puna roopu.
The keynote sessions were inspiring. Students spoke passionately about a wide variety of projects and ideas, demonstrating not only their growing expertise but also the real-world traction many of their initiatives have already gained. The diversity of wicked problems and approaches reflected the unique strengths and interests of our learners, while showcasing the confidence and leadership developing within our kura.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Gallery Walk. This exciting new addition gave students the opportunity to visit one another’s projects, engage in meaningful conversations, and provide peer feedback. The Gallery Walk created a powerful sense of connection and collaboration.
The creativity on display throughout the Expo was remarkable, but even more impressive was the sense of community spirit that filled the day. Students and staff supported one another with enthusiasm, curiosity, and encouragement, creating an environment that celebrated both achievement and growth.
The Puna Wānanga Expo was a reflection of the innovation, passion, and collective energy within our learning community. We are already looking forward to our final evening Expo later in the year, where students will once again showcase their learning and celebrate their journeys alongside whānau and the wider community.
