Project Name: Tiny thread of Love
Group Members: Chelsea Mortimore
Puna Wānanga class: Local Guardians
What is the project about? My project is about supporting families who have premature babies in the NICUs across New Zealand. I am creating sewn items consisting of scented hearts and muslin wraps to donate to the Little Miracles Trust who then distribute them to the NICUs.
Future plans: The future plans for my project are to continue making scented hearts and muslin wraps as well as knitting peggy squares for staff to use in the NICUs. I also want to raise more awareness for the charity and the amazing work that they do for supporting families and babies in the NICU.
Highlight of your learning in Puna Wānanga so far?
My highlight of Puna so far has been seeing all of the stuff that I have managed to do with my own hands and all by myself. It is surprising how much you can do when you put your mind to it and give it a go.
THREE skills developed through being involved in your project:
Whakaaro Taatari
Critical Thinking
I have developed critical thinking throughout my project by being curious/compassionate and interested in the ideas that I am helping with. I have asked critical questions along the way to develop my project further and fully understand what it is the little miracles trust and NICUs need support with.

Caring Thinking
Throughout my project I have also learnt caring thinking. Asking questions has given me an insight into the positive effects of what I am doing. Learning that by making just four scented hearts I am able to help one family feel less lonely and more connected to their baby while they are in NICU is motivation and is really rewarding.

Project Management
I have learnt during this semester that project management is key to producing a lot in one day. I am constantly making goals for the day and using my time effectively to make as many scented hearts or muslin wraps that is physically possible.
How you can support me:
Donating 100% muslin or cotton fabric to assist in the making of these items.
You can also donate directly to the little miracles trust to help support their work by going onto their website: littlemiraclestrust.org.nz
