Project Name: RHS Artchive
Project Members: Brody Clemence and Alana Nandu
Puna Wānanga Area: Cultural Preservation
Our project empowers student artists through our website, with the means to distribute their art and raise funds. This will provide a vital head start for future freelancing endeavours. A percentage of the profits from an artist's sold work comes back to the art department to fund further experiments, trips and niche resources. The format of our website also allows for it to function as an Artchive, a place where our past students' work can be recorded for future students to be inspired by.
Future Plans:
We plan to install a seasonal digital gallery and clear space in our art spaces for current sculptures rather than letting old ones take up that space, we plan to have streamlined the transaction process and make it as easy for our student artists to sell and promote their work.
Highlight of Your Learning in Puna Wānanga to Date:
The amount of thinking, paperwork, and legal considerations needed to operate a business of any kind, how to schedule and accommodate unexpected hiccups and how to push a project.
Two Skills We Have Developed and How:
Mahi Ngaatahi - Collaboration
Taking shared responsibility for something, working together as a team, resolving conflict.
This project specifically takes a lot of hands, the school business manager's input, art teachers and leaders support, people to transport work and supervise communication and transactions. It takes a lot of hands and it has lots of moving parts but we are supervising it in a way that keeps every cog greased and moving.
Whakahaere Kaupapa - Project Management
Managing goals and time, adapting to change, producing results. The scheduling has been a massive undertaking but we are working through it well, the people we need are not available all at the same time so instead we divide and conquer, doing individual meetings, relaying info, postponing and rescheduling. Its a game of flexibility and just pushing to get what you need.
