Many Senior High students are at the age where they’re interested in making money. However, in a world where a student’s NCEA assessments, extracurriculars, and social life are competing for attention, how do we juggle a part time job on top of everything else?
Here are three tips that might help you or your student: scheduling, life balance, and seeking help.
Scheduling - Create a schedule for everything that you have on each week, including sports, due dates, and work shifts. Google Calendar is a good tool, as it can be easily paired with Google Tasks, which allows you to prioritise your workload.
Life balance - Make sure you are still giving time to yourself, family, friends, hobbies, and interests. Your job shouldn’t be taking over the things that make you happy! Also try not to spend your downtime on your phone. Instead, do something that will help you feel relaxed and re-energised.
Seek help - If you are struggling with your workload, communicate with your employer, teachers, and family or friends who can help. Ask to cut down work hours or request an extension on a task.
Hopefully these tips help you find a healthy balance between your part time job, school, and personal life. Just remember to stay organised, prioritise your well-being, and ask for help when you need it--do these three things and you’ll be set!
Good luck, and thanks for reading!
