In the second weekend of Term 2, Valerie de Vries in Year 13 was selected to attend the Royal Astronomical Society New Zealand (RASNZ) on a Students With A Passion for Astronomy (SWAPA) scholarship. Only 10 students were selected out of the whole of NZ to attend the event. The scholarship included a year long membership to RASNZ and entry into the annual conference in Whakatane where they were able to attend workshops and students gave their own presentations on how they got hooked on their field of interest.
Valerie urges other students to apply as you get to meet people who are actively studying in the field who have made their own discoveries through their own research and you could ask as many questions as you wanted. Good luck to Valerie in exploring the unknown!
