Mateus Alves has been nominated as our unsung hero of the week!
An air conditioning service technician by trade, Mateus puts down the tools every Saturday to ensure our athletes get to do what they love most! He has been nominated as he is always there to lend a hand and does a really good job with refereeing one of our teams football games week in and out!
We caught up with Mateus to find out more about him and why he loves to give back to our community!
What sports are you involved with personally?
At the moment I am training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and helping with the kids training @ Life Space - Te Rapa.
Why do you enjoy being involved in sport?
Since I was a child, I have always been involved in a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, and swimming. I have always been very active and played for my school team as well as local clubs in Brazil. Sports offer a wonderful way to connect with the community and provide an opportunity for fun and bonding with my family and others.
Why do you think its important for parents to get involved in sport?
I believe it’s crucial for parents to get involved in sports for several reasons. Firstly, it provides a wonderful opportunity to bond with our children and be actively engaged in their lives. Additionally, the discipline inherent in sports is essential for children’s development, helping them learn and grow. Participation in sports also greatly benefits their wellbeing and mental health, fostering a healthy, active lifestyle.
Thank you so much for everything you do Mateus! We, our students and community really appreciate it!
