KŌRERO FROM MEL

Kia ora e te whaanau,

As we approach the upcoming break, I want to take a moment to connect with you all. To those in our community celebrating Easter, I wish you a very special and meaningful time with your loved ones. For the rest of our whaanau, I hope the long weekend provides a wonderful opportunity for rest, relaxation, and connection with friends and neighbours.

At RJHS, we place a high value on kaitiakitanga - the idea of guardianship and looking after our place and each other. Over the past few weeks, our staff have been making a conscious effort to be visible and present in the Rototuna community after school hours. Our goal is to support our students in being considerate, kind, and positive representatives of our school.

We also believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential to our success. To help our young people navigate public spaces safely and respectfully, we ask for your support in having open conversations at home. You might discuss:

  • Safe Spaces: Identifying appropriate places to meet friends where they can be supervised or engaged in activities.

  • Respectful Interaction: How to share our local businesses and public areas harmoniously with the wider Rototuna public.

  • Constructive Free Time: Encouraging participation in organized sports, workshops, or meeting at home, rather than spending extended, unsupervised periods in public areas where conflicts can easily arise.

This is particularly important as we head into the term break, when our students naturally have more free time. By working together, we can ensure our rangatahi (young people) continue to build a reputation for being responsible and respectful members of our community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for partnering with us to keep our community a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Ngaa mihi nui,

Mel
