Kia ora, Noa'ia, Tālofa lava, Mauri, Kia orāna, Mālō e lelei, Talofa, Ni sa bula vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Mālo ni, Halo olgeta, Halo Oloketa, Tēnā koutou kātoa and warm Pacific greetings to all our Rototuna Whānau,

Welcome to Week 7, Term 2.

Over the last week our students and teachers have been working hard to polish and finish assessments as we change to our Semester 2 programmes. The first common assessment activities have also been completed giving our students an opportunity to gain Literacy and Numeracy. We will be in touch when the grades are released by NZQA.

When looking around our school community, it is inspiring to see that our students come from increasingly diverse backgrounds. Together, our student body represents over 44 different languages and 86 countries throughout the world. While our journeys to get to Aotearoa-New Zealand may be very different, we are all connected to this whenua (land) in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton.

Aotearoa holds a rich history associated with Māori, the original people of this land. The land where our school is built was first settled by Ngāti Wairere. Our school is privileged to have an ongoing relationship with Ngāti Wairere which continues to shape our identity as a school. Most recently, we have been collaborating on a video to celebrate and understand the names of our spaces that Ngāti Wairere gave us. I have included the link to our video below for you to enjoy. It is our hope that this initiative will deepen our collective connection to our beautiful school and to each other.

He waka eke noa: We all ride the same canoe

This week, we are celebrating Samoan Language week and having a full school assembly to share our new video which stars a number of our students. In this newsletter we are also sharing some highlights from the past couple of weeks, our Psychology Fair and highlights from our Puna Expo that you won’t want to miss so please read on.

Until next time

Ngā mihi, Manuia Le Vaiaso, Malo ‘aupito
