KŌRERO FROM KAREN

Kia ora Rototuna whānau,

Last week we gathered for our Excellence Evening, celebrating students who achieved an Excellence Endorsement at NCEA Level 2 (50 Excellence credits in 2025). This is a significant accomplishment and reflects more than strong results alone; it demonstrates deep understanding, critical thinking and the ability to make meaningful connections across learning. It was a special evening, led by our students, including thoughtful reflections from Helena Ho, one of our 2026 Manukura and a recipient of both an Excellence Endorsement and Scholarship. Helena reminded us that excellence is not about perfection, but about the mindset we bring to our learning. She spoke about the courage to take risks, seek feedback, learn from setbacks, and keep showing up. Her message was a powerful reminder that excellence grows through perseverance, curiosity, and a willingness to keep learning.

Now in Week 7, there has been a great deal of rich learning happening across our kura, both in school and through opportunities beyond our classrooms. As we reach this point in the term, it is a good time to pause and see how our students are tracking. In the coming weeks you will receive your young person’s first progress report (Wednesday 25 March), along with their NZQA assessment entries for the year. This report provides an early indication of whether students are on track for their qualifications, as well as feedback about the quality of their learning and the depth of understanding they are demonstrating so far.

That same mindset Helena spoke about, perseverance, courage and showing up, is also visible across many other areas of our kura. We have seen this reflected in some fantastic results in the sporting arena. Congratulations to our Senior Boys Futsal team, who placed first at the recent Waikato Secondary School Futsal tournament, and to our Senior Girls team, who finished second.

We also wish all of our teams heading away to Summer Tournament Week on 23rd March the very best. We look forward to hearing about your experiences and seeing you represent our kura with pride.

Ngā mihi,
Karen
